Goldsmith Vera

I am Vera van Oort graduated goldsmith at the Schoonhoven and Arts & Crafts design school in Rotterdam. Soldering, matting, filigrain, gemstone setting, wax modelling and design are techniques that I made my own during training and internships. I also work behind my own workbench and in a jeweler in Rotterdam.

I specialize in the processing of rough and polished gemstones combined with precious metal jewelry designed by myself. I get inspiration for my designs from nature. I work on feeling: take a shell, so special and beautifully shaped. Fossils are a separate source of inspiration, the frayed veins of a leaf that lived 120 million years ago, hushed, is a small work of art in time.  Other jewellery designers inspire me too. When a designer comes up with a concept and then puts it together technically and aesthetically well, I find it very beautiful.

From my own jewelry line I am very happy when a piece of jewelry is finished, beautiful and as good as I had thought of beforehand. I get a proud feeling when a piece of jewelry looks more beautiful or elegant than the idea in my head. It makes me even happier to see that the customer is just as happy with it and wants to wear this jewelry with love. The jewelry gets an emotional value for me as well as for the customer.

Not only the end result but also the making process is important in the formation of an emotionally valuable piece of jewelry.
